Edward (Ed) Lewis has joined Kauderer & Associates after more than 18 years with the California Highway Patrol where he served as an Investigator/Motor Carrier Specialist with the Golden Gate Division Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). As a member of this team, he assisted in the investigation of more than 800 fatal traffic collisions and hundreds of additional incidents. He has consulted and instructed numerous law enforcement personnel with the execution, analysis, and documentation of post-collision vehicle inspections and component failure analysis. In addition, he has extensive experience in the documentation of inspections, photography, and analysis of evidence.

Ed has more than 40 years of specialized and technical expertise of passenger and commercial vehicle systems and components. He has been responsible for coordinating and executing in-depth inspections of critical vehicle component systems of passenger cars, medium and heavy-duty commercial trucks, buses, recreational vehicles, limousines, motorcycles, special construction equipment and modified vehicles. He has training in the imaging and analyzing of both passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle event data recorders (EDR/CDR). He has also implemented and assisted with numerous controlled vehicle and motorcycle crash testing including WREX 2016.

Ed has qualified as an expert in areas of transportation vehicle’s mechanical systems and component analysis in both criminal and civil trials, as well as providing testimony in civil depositions.

Ed is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), California Association of Accident Reconstruction Specialists (CAARS) and National Association of Professional Accident Reconstruction Specialists (NAPARS).
